There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Cash, Drugs and Sneakers Recovered in Bust
More than $500,000 worth of cocaine, fentanyl, crystal meth, and other controlled substances were seized after a nearly year-long investigation as search warrants were executed at residences in Guelph, Kitchener and North York last week. Two loaded handguns, a large quantity of ammunition, $48,000 in cash were also recovered along with four vehicles and 84 pairs of new high-end running shoes with a value in excess of $25,000.
Three people were arrested:
- A 35-year-old Guelph man who was charged with 20 counts of trafficking a controlled substance, possession for the purpose of trafficking, possessing property obtained by crime over $5,000 and possessing a prohibited weapon.
- A 42-year-old North York man who was charged with trafficking a controlled substance, four counts of possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possessing property obtained by crime over $5,000 and several firearms offences.
- And a 38-year-old Guelph man who was already in custody on unrelated matters but will be returned to Guelph and charged with several drug and weapons charges.

One Dead and Another Airlifted to Hospital After Car Crash
On Thursday afternoon, a pickup truck was westbound on Stone Road West when the driver suffered a medical issue, which caused the truck to leave the roadway where it struck a female pedestrian who had been sitting under a tree reading before colliding with several parked and unoccupied vehicles in the Stone Road Mall parking lot.
The pedestrian was taken to an out of town hospital via Ornge air ambulance with serious lower-body injuries. The man driving the truck though was taken to Guelph General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Assault
A 41-year-old Guelph man was charged with assault causing bodily harm, unauthorized possession of a weapon, possessing a weapon contrary to a prohibition order and three counts of failing to comply with an undertaking after officers saw a wanted man downtown. He had a weapon similar to brass knuckles but made of hard plastic on his person when he was arrested.
Break-Ins
The owner of a Malcolm Road business arrived at work last Friday morning to find the glass door smashed, but it is unknown if entry was gained and nothing appeared to be missing. Police were called to a business near Silvercreek and Speedvale last Saturday morning after the owner arrived and found the front door ajar. A laptop computer, tablet and cash were missing. Drugs
A 58-year-old Guelph man was charged with possessing a controlled substance on top of an outstanding warrant after police found him while on patrol downtown Monday afternoon. The suspect had a small amount of suspected cocaine in his pocket.
A 21-year-old Guelph man was arrested after police tied him to at least 22 prescription fraud cases where it was alleged that several people working together recruited others to submit and collect fraudulent prescriptions for opioids using fake identification. The suspect is being charged with conspiracy to commit fraud, conspiracy to traffic in a controlled substance, making a false document, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and carrying a concealed weapon.

Impaired Driving
A 46-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving and speeding, and his licence was suspended for 90 days after a pickup truck was clocked doing 81 kilometres per hour in a 60 zone on Stone Road West last Saturday morning.
A 28-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving and driving while prohibited, and his licence was suspended for 90 days last Sunday afternoon after a witness saw a man fall off his motorcycle on Paisley near the Hanlon.
Theft
A white 2011 Toyota Camry was stolen from a driveway near Gordon and Clairfields sometime overnight between Monday evening and Tuesday morning. If you have any information, call Constable Rick Towlson at 519-824-1212, ext. 7158, email him at rtowlson [at] guelphpolice.ca.
A 32-year-old Guelph man was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, failing to remain at a collision and breaching several court orders after a delivery driver’s car was stolen at Wellington and Gordon while picking up a food order. The suspect drove erratically causing several other motorists to take evasive action, before colliding with another vehicle nearby.
Does this look like your stuff? It was found on a person arrested by Guelph Police Thursday morning after they saw someone sitting in the driver’s seat of a car and they knew he shouldn’t be driving. The 38-year-old Guelph man was charged with failing to comply with a release order, two counts of possessing stolen property and possessing a controlled substance, which leaves the question about whose tools are these? A 26-year-old Guelph man was charged with robbery, mischief under $5,000 and breaching probation after he walked into a store at Woodlawn and Woolwich, poked a clerk in the eye, and fled with several packs of cigarettes.
A 31-year-old Guelph man was charged with robbery and possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking for an incident that happened in May where two people were robbed at knife and gun point. A warrant executed on Wednesday in relation to the case turned up approximately $2,500 worth of cocaine separated into small packages as well as unused baggies, a scale, cash and several cellphones.
A 44-year-old Guelph man was charged with two counts of possessing stolen property over $5,000 and three counts of breaching probation after a 2007 Ford box truck was stolen from a business on Elizabeth Street sometime overnight between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. When the suspect was found, he was in possession of a cheque for more than $33,000 made out to a local religious organization.
Traffic
A stolen white Chevrolet pickup was involved in three hit-and-run collisions downtown last Friday. At 8:20 pm the truck was seen driving away from from a Wellington Street West parking lot after striking two parked cars, and a little while later it struck an ebike and injured the woman riding it at Macdonell and Wyndham. A 60-year-old Durham Region man was charged with driving with an insecure load and failing to secure a load in accordance with regulations, while a Durham Region company was charged with permitting a commercial motor vehicle to operate with an insecure load. On Tuesday morning, a flatbed truck lost it’s 6,600 kilogram load while turning onto Wellington Street West from the Hanlon Expressway. Several deep gouges in the asphalt were created, but fortunately no injuries were reported.

A 14-year-old male was transported to hospital by ambulance for treatment of facial injuries Tuesday afternoon when a driver turned right at Edinburgh and Municipal and a cyclist riding on the sidewalk crashed into the side of the vehicle.
A 14-year-old Guelph male youth was charged with taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, specifically his mom’s car, for a 30-minute joy ride early in the morning last Friday.
A 31-year-old Guelph woman was charged with stunt driving after getting clocked doing 91 kilometres per hour in a posted 50 zone on Victoria at Grange Monday morning.
A 23-year-old Mississauga man was charged with stunt driving after a speed enforcement action on Victoria near Woodlawn caught the driver doing 92 kilometres per hour in a 40 zone on Monday morning.
A 33-year-old Guelph woman was charged with dangerous driving, flight from police, possessing stolen property and several Highway Traffic Act offences on Wednesday. The charges stemmed from a traffic stop last month when officers stopped a car in the area of Willow and Silvercreek because the plates did not match the vehicle, but the car left the area at a high rate of speed and police chose not to pursue for public safety.
