June starts with a city council meeting, another workshop/orientation meeting, and the subject this time is a very important and timely topic indeed. You’ve probably been following the news in the last several months about the long lines of ambulances frequently seen outside Guelph General Hospital, or maybe you’ve seen them for yourself, well this meeting will outline the potential political response.
NOTE #1: Delegates will be able to appear at this meeting in-person or via tele-presense but you do have to register with the clerks office before 10 am on Friday May 26. You can also submit written delegations and correspondences for agenda items.
NOTE #2: In addition to meeting in-person, this meeting will also be live-streamed on the City of Guelph’s website here.
NOTE #3: This is a meeting is at the special time of Thursday at 2 pm.
Joint County and City Council Workshop on Guelph Wellington Paramedic Services – Public Services DCAO Colleen Clack-Bush and Paramedic Chief Stephen Dewar will take council through the history of what we now call the Guelph Wellington Paramedic Services, how its funded, and what changes need to be made to improve it. This is where the recent Facility Needs Assessment report to council comes in, which revealed that many paramedic stations across the region where not meeting the needs of the service, especially the ones out in the county.
Included in the agenda package is an open letter to Minister of Health Sylvia Jones asking for immediate support and leadership to combat offload delays in Guelph and Wellington, which the letter says is the fourth highest in the entire province. “Strong leadership can resolve this long-standing issue once and for all. We commit to ongoing collaboration, sharing more local data and information as needed, and to continue to work in partnership to keep our communities safe.” The letter, which is signed by CAO Scott Stewart, asks Jones for a meeting to discuss these issues.
