MEETING PREVIEW: Guelph Public Library Board for June 24, 2024

In their last meeting before summer vacation, the Guelph Public Library Board is going to have a lot of ground to cover. There will be follow up about previous reports on the work needed to update the various branches along with some of the usual monthly reports, and there will also be new information about the end of the yer financials and programming matters. And just in time for a little summer day dreaming, the board will look to the year 2029!

NOTE #1: This meeting will take place in Programming Room at the Main Library on Norfolk Street, but you can also watch it on video via Cisco Webex. (Find the link on the library board’s webpage.)

NOTE #2: The meeting begins at 6 pm and is expected to wrap up around 8 pm.

NOTE #3: The Library does not make the complete agenda with reports available to the public, only the point form agenda.

Consent Agenda – There’s the usual slate of reports including the (acting) CEO’s report, the service utilization and capacity scorecards, the operating variance, and the updated milestones for the construction of the new main library building. What’s new? A human resources scorecard plus the mid-year work plan report for both the board and staff strategic plans, and an update to the facilities master plan for the branches, which was requested last month, and presumably contains information about costs for all the branches.

CLOSED MEETING:

The board will meet in closed on one item under the topic of “labour relations or employee negotiations.” Interestingly, this in-camera portion comes sandwiched between the consent agenda and the presentations as opposed to it’s usual end of meeting position.

Presentations & Reports – The board will look to the future when they’re asked to consider an overview of the Strategic Plan for the next four years starting in 2025, which, and this has probably already occurred to you, goes beyond the planned opening of the new main library in 2026. This portion of the meeting will also cover the annual review of programming, and the 2023 year-end financials. Additionally, board member Councillor Carly Klassen will talk about her recent visit to the Calgary Library.
