MEETING PREVIEW: Guelph Public Library Board for February 25, 2025

As usual, we’ve gotten to the last Monday of the month and that means it’s time to tuck in with the Guelph Public Library Board of Directors meeting. On this agenda, there’s actually a lot carried over from the last meeting, deferred reports that the board didn’t tackle in January, plus some new information about the work that staff did last year in service of the library. So let’s dig into the agenda for February!

NOTE #1: This meeting will take place in Programming Room at the Main Library on Norfolk Street, but you can also watch it on video via Cisco Webex. (Find the link on the library board’s webpage.)

NOTE #2: The meeting begins at 6 pm and is expected to wrap up around 8 pm.

NOTE #3: The Library does not make the complete agenda with reports available to the public, only the point form agenda.

Consent Agenda – On the consent agenda there’s the slate of usual reports including the CEO report, new library update, service scorecards, and the operating variance. As usual, if any member of the board would like to pull a report for further discussion they’ll talk about it, otherwise it will be passed as a set before moving on to the other matters of discussion.

Presentations & Reports – Primary among the reports in this section is a lot of stuff that was deferred from January including the 2025 staff strategic work plan,  the election of the new board exec, and committee assignments. In new business, there will be discussion of a board evaluation document and staff will present the annual review of the library’s work.

CLOSED MEETING:

As usual, this one closed meeting item has to do with “labour relations or employee negotiations”. Earlier this month, this story was published by Guelph Today, which prompts some degree of speculation about what might be talked about in this portion of the meeting.
