City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the January 28, 2025 Meeting?

The month at city council comes to a quick end with the regular meeting just two weeks after Committee of the Whole. On the agenda, aside from the ratification of the committee agenda, is an item for discussion in-camera and the approval of a grant funding agreement with the provincial government. Will there be any last minute controversy? Maybe, but for now you just get the preview of this meeting…

NOTE #1: Delegates will be able to appear at this meeting in-person or via tele-presense but you do have to register with the clerks office before 10 am on Friday January 24. You can also submit written delegations and correspondences for agenda items.

NOTE #2: In addition to meeting in-person, this meeting will also be live-streamed on the City of Guelph’s website here.

CLOSED MEETING:

Proposed Employment Land Acquisition – What land and what the proposal is are obviously unknown but council will discuss it in closed session under Section 239(2)(c) of the Municipal Act for a matter “regarding a proposed or pending acquisition or disposition of land by the municipality or local board.”

Grant Agreement: Endorsement of Housing Enabling Water Systems Fund Grant – There’s no formal report about this item with the initial release of the agenda, but that doesn’t mean we don’t know anything. Last year, the Ontario government announced a new fund to help municipalities develop, repair, rehabilitate and expand critical drinking water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure in the interested of accelerating housing. The City of Guelph was successful in securing $2.1 million to fund replacing the wastewater infrastructure on Wyndham Street South from Wellington Street to Farquhar Street. This should formalise the dispersement of those funds to the City.

Consent Agenda items from the Committee of the Whole meetings on January 14. (Items can be pulled by a councillor seeking additional information, otherwise all items will be voted on as a slate without further debate.)
