MEETING PREVIEW: Transit Advisory Committee Meeting for November 21, 2024

There’s been a lot of talk about Guelph Transit lately between the potential transit worker strike cancelled at the last minute and proposed cuts in the 2025 budget, but things will more or less be ordinary business for this meeting of the Transit Advisory Committee. Or perhaps we should say “ordinary for now” because the committee will talk about its potential future along with some of the usual matters.

NOTE #1: This meeting takes place at 5:30 pm in Committee Room A at City Hall. You can also find a link to attend the meeting virtually on the meeting agenda at the City’s website. (See below.)

NOTE #2: For alternate meeting formats please contact judi.prigione [at] guelph.ca or call 519-822-1260 ext. 3863.

Advisory Committees of Council Framework Update – Acting City Clerk Dylan McMahon and Board and Committee Co-ordinator Winnie Chan will be coming to the Transit Advisory Committee to talk about how they might soon become the Transportation and Mobility Advisory Committee. The change will actual expand the committee’s sphere of responsibility to “include a wider range of transportation modalities” and offer advise around the Transportation Master Plan *and* Guelph Transit matters. According to the report, the change will “address the interconnection between all forms of transportation” and to “reflect the importance of social equity and accessibility in transportation.” The final report about the ACOC review will come back to council in March.

Update: Bike Rack Display at Guelph Central Station – You may have noticed the new practice bike rack at Guelph Central Station. Abby Spielmacher, Project Manager for Customer Experience, will be coming to this meeting to talk about the installation and the promotion of the new practice rack. No report was included in the agenda, but there were some very nice photos (like the one above).

TAC Members’ Feedback – There’s at least one piece of feedback that will be discussed, a request to see data on the usage of the Connect-to-GO program, which allows Guelph Transit users to connect to their out-of-town trips on GO Transit as one continuous journey. No report was attached to the agenda.

General Transit Update, including Electric Buses – Management staff will be on-hand to offer updates on any pressing transit business that’s not been covered in any of the above topics and categories, and that includes the ongoing roll out of the new electric buses.
