MEETING PREVIEW: Guelph Public Library Board for September 30, 2024

Last day of the month means one more chance for a meeting, and in this case it’s the Guelph Public Library Board of Directors. After summer vacation (which was briefly interrupted for a meeting in August, more on that in a minute), the board will gather at the old main library to talk about the new main library and other matters, including a presentation from a special guest. Let’s break down the agenda!

NOTE #1: This meeting will take place in Programming Room at the Main Library on Norfolk Street, but you can also watch it on video via Cisco Webex. (Find the link on the library board’s webpage.)

NOTE #2: The meeting begins at 6 pm and is expected to wrap up around 8 pm.

NOTE #3: The Library does not make the complete agenda with reports available to the public, only the point form agenda.

Consent Agenda – Round up the usual reports! Correspondences, the acting CEO report, service utilisation and capacity scorecards, the operating variance, and the human resource scorecard make up the slate for September. These reports will only be discussed though if a member of the board asks to pull them for discussion.

Presentations & Reports – Along with the report from Councillor Carly Klassen about the Calgary Library that she was unable to deliver in June, and there will also be a presentation about the proposed operating and capital budgets for 2025. Also, special guest star Antti Vilkko, general manager of Facilities and Energy Management at the City of Guelph, will join the board meeting to review the update of the main library’s construction.

CLOSED MEETING:

The board will meet in closed on one item under the topic of “labour relations or employee negotiations”, perhaps an update about the hiring of the new permanent CEO. It’s worth noting that there was a special meeting in August that was also a closed discussion about “labour relations or employee negotiations.”
