MEETING PREVIEW: Guelph Police Services Board for June 20, 2024

The time is here again for the monthly Guelph Police Services Board meeting and the agenda this June is focused on yearly reports. Having said, perhaps the biggest report is missing from the agenda even though we’re all going to see it in the very near future so consider this a sneak preview. In other news, we will get an update on human resources, plus there will be a report about a growing and sickening area of criminality.

NOTE: This meeting takes place virtually at 2:30 pm but it will be broadcast on Guelph Police’s YouTube page.

PRESENTATIONS:

Detective Constable Hugh Currie will talk about investigative support for the Internet Child Exploitation Unit.

Board Correspondence Report – There’s one piece of incoming mail from Michael House who are thanking the board for their support, and one piece of outgoing mail to the City of Guelph concerning the 2023 police budget surplus.

Member Appointments – There are two new full-time appointments to the service that need to be approved by the board.

2025 Budget Calendar – It’s summer for some of us, but at police headquarters they’re already looking to fall. The 2025 budget will be confirmed by the board later this year with presentations and delegations for the capital budget in September and then approval at the October meeting, which will be followed by presentations and delegations for the operating budget in October and a confirmation vote in November.

Promotions – For the board’s information, and yours too, Tanya Hartman has been promoted Data Services Supervisor and Daniel McTaggart has been promoted to sergeant.

Human Resources Annual Report for 2023 – This information report is presented every year to give the lay of the human resources land in the service including accomplishments and challenges. The report covers outreach opportunities for recruitment, professional development and training, accommodation and leaves, staff engagement, and attrition and retirement numbers.

2023 Annual Report – The pending release of the annual report was teased at a council meeting last week, but unfortunately the report was not included in the agenda package, but it should be made public sometime before the end of the month.

Chief’s Monthly Report – As usual, Guelph Police Services Chief Gord Cobey will deliver a verbal report about the latest goings on at 15 Wyndham Street South.
