MEETING PREVIEW: Guelph Public Library Board for March 25, 2024

Spring has sprung, and that’s true at the Guelph Public Library too, but for this month’s Board of Directors meeting we’re going to play some catch up too. There’s at least one big report that was unfortunately kicked down the road till this meeting, and there was a teased report that touches on some recent cyber news, but there are some new developments that going to be interesting to discuss too. Let us get in to the preview…

NOTE #1: This meeting will take place in Programming Room at the Main Library on Norfolk Street, but you can also watch it on video via Cisco Webex. (Find the link on the library board’s webpage.)

NOTE #2: The meeting begins at 6 pm and is expected to wrap up around 8 pm.

NOTE #3: The Library does not make the complete agenda with reports available to the public, only the point form agenda.

Consent Agenda –The usual series of reports are included under the consent banner from the service scorecards to the new main library update. The only real difference month-over-month is that this time there’s an “Acting CEO” report as Dan Atkins fills the void left by Steve Kraft who retired last month.

Presentations & Reports – There are some interesting items among these reports the marketing plan for fundraising for the new library (delayed from last month), plus the year-end variance report and the board evaluation. Also, there’s the IT annual report, which will get into how the library is protecting itself from potential cyber attacks like the one experienced by the Toronto Public Library last fall, and there will be a report about the future sale of 100 Norfolk Street, aka: the current main library.

CLOSED MEETING:

Hopefully this one doesn’t go as long as last month’s closed session, but there is only one thing mentioned in the agenda, a matter relating to “labour relations or employee negotiations.”

New Business – The board will discuss, and possibly vote on, who among them will represent the Guelph Public Library with the Ontario Library Service, a consortium created to “empower Ontario’s public libraries to continuously adapt and improve services to their unique communities.”
