After passing the Guelph Police Services budget for 2024-2027 last month, this November meeting of the Police Services Board seems positively light. Still, there’s some stuff worth checking at this meeting including an annual update from the Guelph Police’s counterparts up on the hill at the U of G, an update about how this year’s budget is going, plus the usual report from the chief.
NOTE: This meeting takes place virtually at 2:30 pm but it will be broadcast on Guelph Police’s YouTube page.
PRESENTATIONS/DELEGATIONS:
David Lee, director of the Campus Safety Office, will deliver the annual report about the work of the auxiliary service at the University of Guelph from May 2022 to April 2023. The full breakdown of incidents and changes during that time period can seen from pages 17 to 23 in the full agenda, and year-over-year there’s either been increases in most categories or they stayed the same. The report also notes that there were 203 calls in the first year of IMPACT being offered on campus.
Human Resources Report: Member Appointments – There are two new appointments for the board to approve this month, a new Information Processor Clerk in the Data Services Unit and a Police Communicator/Dispatcher.
Board Correspondence Report – The only thing this month is outgoing mail, a letter to Mayor Cam Guthrie about the passage of the 2024-2027 multiyear budget. (It’s on page 36 of the agenda package.)
Budget (Capital & Operating) Q3 Report – The operating budget is showing a slight positive variance for the end of the third quarter, which is mostly thanks to some lagging around the budget for salaries and benefits, which is only at 71.8 per cent of budget for the year as of the end of September. The actual direct operating expenses are also down compared to what’s budgeted, but the Service is anticipating no positive (or negative) operating variance for the end of the year due to pressures on the year-end forecast like overtime and WSIB payments, and the cost of covering events like protests and Safe Semester.
Chief’s Monthly Report – As usual, Guelph Police Services Chief Gord Cobey will deliver a verbal report about the latest goings on at 15 Wyndham Street South.
