MEETING PREVIEW: Transit Advisory Committee Meeting for November 16, 2023

November’s Transit Advisory Committee meeting will look to the future. That means looking at the budget and some of the best laid plans in the 10-year route and schedule strategy that are now delayed, and that also means looking at potential changes to a south end bus route. That’s under new business, and aside from then there’s also the usual business like the monthly update from staff and rider feedback.

NOTE #1: This meeting takes place at 5:30 pm in Committee Meeting Room A at City Hall and you can also watch it online via a link provided in the meeting agenda.

Update: Connect-To-GO Program, Signage and Communication – There’s no report about this item attached to the agenda but it will presumably offer the committee more information about signage directing people where they can tap-and-go in order to transfer to and from GO Transit, plus how the City of Guelph is promoting the program.

Budget Update – As you may know, the 2024-2027 multiyear budget has a number of changes and deferrals that affects Guelph Transit including some delays to the 10-year route and schedule strategy and delays to the completion of Guelph Central Station. No formal report was attached to the agenda, but Courtney McDonald, Manager of Transit Business Service, will give a verbal report.

Route 5 Goodwin Review and Planning Programme Results – As previously reported, Guelph Transit is getting back to it’s regular ongoing review of route performances, and due to repeatedly complaints about timing on both weekdays and weekends, Transit staff started with the #5 Goodwin route. To overcome the late returns on the in-bound trips back to the University Centre, Transit staff are recommending that stating in the January the #5 should go express to the University Centre after stopping at Gordon and Edinburgh.

TAC Rider Feedback – This is the regularly scheduled part of the meeting where members of TAC can ask questions they’ve been given about matters of transit operations from members of the public. There’s advanced notice about two items on this agenda, including some feedback and concerns raised from the Central Student Association at the U of G, and expectations and improvements.

General Transit Update, including Electric Buses -Management staff will be on-hand to offer updates on any pressing transit business that’s not been covered in any of the above topics and categories, and that includes the ongoing roll out of the new electric buses.
