Apparently, city council is taking Halloween off. The final meeting of October is a week early, but that fact probably hasn’t had too big of an impact on the list of items for this regular meeting of council because most of it is about what’s already been approved at Committee of the Whole earlier this month. At least one of those reports will be revisited, plus one of our local sports teams will stop by so that their championship can be celebrated.
NOTE #1: Delegates will be able to appear at this meeting in-person or via tele-presense but you do have to register with the clerks office before 10 am on Friday October 20. You can also submit written delegations and correspondences for agenda items.
NOTE #2: In addition to meeting in-person, this meeting will also be live-streamed on the City of Guelph’s website here.
COMMUNITY RECOGNITION:
The U15 Guelph Cyclones will be feted as the gold medal winning National Ball Hockey Champions.
Parks and Recreation Master Plan – Nothing seems to have changed in the recommendation from Committee of the Whole, but there are already a pair of delegations on the agenda for this item so it seems like there still maybe something to say about this matter before council ratifies its decision.
Guaranteed Livable Income – This concerns a motion from Councillor Carly Klassen, who would like council’s endorsement to have the mayor send a letter to the Prime Minster of Canada, the Premier of Ontario and other government officials at the federal and provincial levels to work towards the establishment of the National Guaranteed Livable Basic Income. The goal is to use a basic income program as a way to help eliminate poverty and homelessness in Guelph and the rest of Canada.
Consent Agenda items from the Committee of the Whole meeting on October 3. (Items can be pulled by a councillor seeking additional information, otherwise all items will be voted on as a slate without further debate.)
