At this special meeting of Guelph City Council, they will give thanks for having a knowledgeable and adaptable finance staff. Members of council will stuff themselves with facts and figures about the budget mechanics, the pressures on the budget for the next four years and some of the challenges on the part of the City as we enter the next budget cycle. It’s time to get smarter, and that’s not talking turkey!
NOTE #1: There will be no delegates or correspondences because this is an orientation and/or workshop meeting of council.
NOTE #2: In addition to meeting in-person, this meeting will also be live-streamed on the City of Guelph’s website here.
NOTE #3: This meeting takes place at the special day and time of Wednesday at 6 pm.
Building Our City Budget – As you may know, the 2024-2027 budget process will begin early in November. You may also know that this is the first time that city council will be passing the full, four-year multiyear budget. What you may not know is that the granting of Strong Mayor Powers to the head of Guelph city council earlier this year has had some effects on the budget process.
That’s one of the things that a crew of finance staff will cover at this special orientation meeting of council, which will build on two previous budget sessions that council has had so far this term. Staff will cover budget topics, asset management, infrastructure renewal, and growth. Only a brief memo was available in the original agenda for this meeting, but all the meeting materials will be available on the council page of the City’s website on Wednesday. The budget itself will be released on November 3.
