City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the November 27 Meeting?

There’s only one thing on the agenda for this meeting: the public delegations for the Tax Supported Operating Budget and Local Boards and Shared Services Budgets. If you have an opinion on either of these items, you have until the end of the week to let the Clerks Office know, and this is how.

If you would like to simply comment on either of the budgets, you can send them to the Clerk by emailing to clerks@guelph.ca.

You can use that same email address to let the Clerks know that you intend to delegate too, and you can even use it to send materials for a presentation (but attachments must be less than 20 MB, please). You can also call ahead by dialing 519-837-5603 or through TTY at 519-826-9771.

If you’re delegating on behalf of a group or association, you’re asked to let the Clerks office know who you’re with, and that you only send one delegate to represent your group.

You can’t register multiple delegations, and you can’t register a delegation for someone else.

When you’re presenting, you get five minutes to make all the points you want to make, but there is the possibility that you could be asked follow-up questions by members of council, or the mayor.

When it comes to delegating, there are some “don’ts.” Don’t present statements or materials meant to generate publicity, don’t delegate on any litigation or potential litigation that’s presently before the court, and don’t be disrespectful to City employee, members of council, or people in the community.

All intentions to delegate and written correspondences have to be received by the Clerks’ office by 10 am on Friday. For any further information on when, why and how to delegate, consult the City of Guelph website here.

There are presently three delegated on the list for the meeting, Shakiba Shayani of the Guelph Chamber of Commerce, Helen Fishburn of the Canadian Mental Health Association of Waterloo Wellington, and Robert Eilers of Vesterra Property Management Inc, which manages a number of residential and commercial properties here in Guelph.

The presentation of the Tax Supported Operating Budget will take place Monday at 4 pm, and the presentation of the Local Boards and Shared Services Budgets will take place this Wednesday at 4 pm.
