MANGEZ! Dine Safe Guide for February 15-28, 2019

Twice-monthly, Guelph Politico posts the latest inspection results from the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health Unit inspection of local restaurants, hotels, cafes, grocery stores and other businesses that handle food. We call it “Mangez!”, and this column highlights the latest inspections done by WDGPH, and the results they’ve posted.

  • Where food is prepared or handled on-site, there is at least one food handler or supervisor on the premises who has completed the food handler training at the time of inspection

  • Ensure hand washing station is only used for hand washing and is not obstructed in any way
  • Remove and store garbage as necessary to maintain sanitary conditions

  • Cleaning required around, under, and behind kitchen equipment, counters, and baseboards

  • Sanitizing solution must be prepared as often as is necessary to maintain the required concentration

Swiss Chalet, 502 Edinburgh Rd S (1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • Ensure floors are kept clean and in good repair

Thai Tanic, 13-35 Harvard Rd (4 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • Ensure there is a certified food handler present on-site at all times of operation
  • Maintain hardwood cutting boards, blocks, tables or bowls in a clean and sanitary manner
  • Ventilation hood and/or filters require cleaning
  • Remove all materials not associated with the daily operation of food premises

The Works Gourmet Burger Bistro, 97 Wyndham St N (1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • Ensure walls are kept clean and in good repair

Willowdale Child Care and Learning Centre, 95 Willow Rd (1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • Maintain ventilation system in manner not permitting health hazard; Ventilation hood and/or filters require cleaning

Workside ECE Centre Child Care,99 Woolwich St (1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • Daily housekeeping practices must be improved

Angel’s Diner, 23 Wellington St E (1 Critical)

  • Store raw hazardous foods separate and below cooked / ready-to-eat foods

Italy Pizza, 547 Speedvale Ave E (1 Critical/2 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • CRITICAL: Food protected from potential contamination and adulteration
  • Clean and sanitize washroom(s) at least once per day and as often as necessary
  • Where food is prepared or handled on-site, there is at least one food handler or supervisor on the premises who has completed the food handler training at the time of inspection

Mandarin Restaurant, 565 Woodlawn Rd W (1 Critical)

  • Hazardous food is held at 4°C (40°F) or less

Symposium Cafe, 304 Stone Rd W (1 Critical/6 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • CRITICAL: Food handlers wash hands before commencing work and after potential contamination
  • Ensure there is a certified food handler present on-site at all times of operation
  • Ensure hand washing station is only used for hand washing and is not obstructed in
  • any way; Provide soap in a dispenser at hand washing station in the food preparation area
  • Ensure wiping cloths are clean, handled properly, restricted to a single task and a sanitizing solution is used
  • Cleaning required around, under, and behind kitchen equipment, counters, and baseboards
  • Ventilation hood and/or filters require cleaning
  • Daily housekeeping practices must be improved; Maintain the premises in a clean and sanitary condition
