MANGEZ! Dine Safe Guide for September 1-15, 2018

Twice-monthly, Guelph Politico posts the latest inspection results from the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health Unit inspection of local restaurants, hotels, cafes, grocery stores and other businesses that handle food. We call it “Mangez!”, and this column highlights the latest inspections done by WDGPH, and the results they’ve posted.

Here are the inspections done between September 1-15 according to the “Check Before You Choose” website.

  • Adequate protection against the entrance of insects, birds, rodents, and other pests
    Daily housekeeping practices must be improved

Airpark Cafe, 50 Skyway Dr (1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • Floors, walls, and ceilings clean and in good repair

Dairy Depot, 363 Elizabeth St (1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • General housekeeping is sufficient to maintain the premise in a clean and sanitary condition

Kenzo Ramen, 10-5 Clair Rd (1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • Daily housekeeping practices must be improved

Let’s Eat, 140 Hadati Rd (1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • Cleaning required around, under, and behind kitchen equipment, counters, and baseboards; Ensure floors are kept clean and in good repair

Mr. Sub, 240 Silvercreek Pky N (1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • Provide soap in a dispenser at hand washing station in the food preparation area

Planet Bean Coffee, 259 Grange Rd (1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • Ensure a sanitizing test kit is provided and used to verify the concentration of the sanitizing agent

Preschool Canada, 322 Eastview Rd (1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • Ensure wash water is between 60°C and 71°C; Ensure hot water sanitizer is at 82°C or greater for at least 10 seconds; Provide sufficient detergent or chemicals for washing or sanitizing

Rocky’s Drive In, 520 Elizabeth St (1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • Floors, walls, and ceilings clean and in good repair

Wellington Early Learning Centre – Taylor Evans, 271 Stephanie Dr (2 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • Floors within the premises require cleaning
  • Clean and disinfect liquid soap dispensers once empty and prior to filling; Provide liquid soap in a dispenser at the hand washing sink.

U of G – Pages Coffee House, 50 Stone Rd E (1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • Mechanical dishwashing: Wash / rinse water clean, water temperature, timing cycles, sanitizer

*Critical infraction: A violation found during an inspection that could be a health hazard

The Albion Hotel, 49 Norfolk St (2 Critical/3 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • CRITICAL: Hazardous food is held at 4°C (40°F) or less
  • CRITICAL: Ensure all frozen hazardous foods are stored in a frozen state
  • Ensure floors are kept clean and in good repair
  • Ensure clean wash / rinse water is provided
  • Ensure all surfaces are clean and maintained in good repair

Bite Me Guelph, A6-320 Eastview Rd (1 Critical/1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • CRITICAL: Hot holding: minimum of 60°C (140°F) after cooking / rapid re-heating
  • Ensure manual dishwashing includes the three steps: wash, rinse, and sanitize

Dairy Queen, 380 Eramosa Rd (1 Critical/1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • CRITICAL: Ensure all food is protected from potential contamination and adulteration
  • Quaternary ammonium compound must be at least 200 parts per million at 24°C or greater for at least 45 seconds

Thanh Phat Asian Grocery, 252 Silvercreek Pky N (3 Critical/3 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • CRITICAL: Ensure all hazardous foods are stored at 4°C (40°F) or less
  • CRITICAL: Food handlers wash hands before commencing work and after potential contamination
  • CRITICAL: Food protected from potential contamination and adulteration
  • Ensure floors are kept clean and in good repair
  • Daily housekeeping practices must be improved
  • Adequate protection against the entrance of insects, birds, rodents, and other pests
