MANGEZ! Dine Safe Guide for July 1-15, 2018

Twice-monthly, Guelph Politico posts the latest inspection results from the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health Unit inspection of local restaurants, hotels, cafes, grocery stores and other businesses that handle food. We call it “Mangez!”, and this column highlights the latest inspections done by WDGPH, and the results they’ve posted.

  • Sanitizing solution must be prepared as often as is necessary to maintain the required concentration; Wash, rinse and sanitize equipment / utensils after each use or as often as necessary

Guelph Caribbean Cuisine, 45 Cork St E (1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • Provide an easily readable, accurate indicating thermometer to check food storage temperatures

Hibachi Sushi, 328 Speedvale Ave E (3 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • Ensure there is a certified food handler present on-site at all times of operation
  • Cleaning required around, under, and behind kitchen equipment, counters, and baseboards; Ensure floors are kept clean and in good repair
  • Daily housekeeping practices must be improved; Maintain the premises in a clean and sanitary condition; Remove all materials not associated with the daily operation of food premises

Holiday Inn Express, 540 Silvercreek Pky N (3 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • Ensure there is a certified food handler present on-site at all times of operation;
  • Ensure an adequate number of food handlers or supervisor(s) are in the process of completing the certified food handler training prior to January 2019
    Provide paper towels at hand washing station in food preparation area; Provide soap in a dispenser at hand washing station in the food preparation area
  • Ensure manual dishwashing includes the three steps: wash, rinse, and sanitize; Chlorine sanitizer concentration must be at least 100 parts per million at 24°C or greater for at least 45 seconds; Quaternary ammonium compound must be at least 200 parts per million at 24°C or greater for at least 45 seconds; Ensure a sanitizing test kit is provided and used to verify the concentration of the sanitizing agent

  • Dispose of liquid waste in a sanitary manner

  • Cleaning required around, under, and behind kitchen equipment, counters, and baseboards; Ensure floors are kept clean and in good repair

  • Post Check Before You Choose sign
  • Adequate hand washing station(s) in all preparation / service areas, supplied with liquid soap and paper towels, and used for hand washing only
  • Food contact surfaces cleaned and sanitized after each use and as often as is necessary to maintain such surfaces in a sanitary condition

Win Chinese Food, 1467 Gordon St (1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • Daily housekeeping practices must be improved

Zehrs Markets, 1045 Paisley Rd (1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • Ensure all surfaces are clean and maintained in good repair

*Critical infraction: A violation found during an inspection that could be a health hazard

Bobby O’Brien’s / Opus, 90 Macdonell St (1 Critical/4 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • CRITICAL: Separate raw hazardous foods from ready-to-eat foods during storage and handling
  • Equipment is of sound and tight construction, in good repair and easily cleaned and sanitized
  • Mechanical dishwashing: Wash / rinse water clean, water temperature, timing cycles, sanitizer
  • Floors, walls, and ceilings clean and in good repair

  • Frequency of garbage removal adequate to maintain the premises in a sanitary condition
