MANGEZ! Dine Safe Guide for May 16-31, 2018

Twice-monthly, Guelph Politico posts the latest inspection results from the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health Unit inspection of local restaurants, hotels, cafes, grocery stores and other businesses that handle food. We call it “Mangez!”, and this column highlights the latest inspections done by WDGPH, and the results they’ve posted.

  • Clean and sanitize washroom(s) at least once per day and as often as necessary
  • Cleaning required around, under, and behind kitchen equipment, counters, and baseboards; Ensure walls are kept clean and in good repair

  • Ensure all service windows to the preparation area are screened

  • Ensure hand wash basin is only used for hand washing and is not obstructed in any way

  • Adjust or repair the refrigeration unit immediately. Do not store any hazardous foods in the unit until it is able to maintain hazardous foods at 4°C (40°F) or less; Ensure all hazardous foods are stored at 4°C (40°F) or less

Bombay Kitchen Fine Indian Cuisine, 105 MacDonell St (1 Critical/3 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • CRITICAL: Store raw foods separate and below cooked / ready-to-eat foods
  • Ensure all surfaces are clean and maintained in good repair; Ensure all surfaces are easily cleanable and non-absorbent
  • Ensure ceilings are kept clean and in good repair
  • Maintain ventilation system in manner not permitting health hazard

  • Hazardous food is held at 4°C (40°F) or less
  • Ensure all food is protected from potential contamination and adulteration

  • CRITICAL: Ensure employees wash hands before food handling
  • Provide soap in a dispenser at hand washing basin in the food preparation area
  • Ensure all surfaces are clean and maintained in good repair; Ensure all surfaces are easily cleanable and non-absorbent
  • Cleaning required around, under, and behind kitchen equipment, counters, and baseboards; Ensure walls are kept clean and in good repair

OPA’s Kitchen All Day Breakfast, 1-340 Woodlawn Rd W (1 Critical/4 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • CRITICAL: Cover all food in storage; Displayed food must be enclosed in a manner to prevent contamination; Ensure all food is protected from potential contamination and adulteration; Transport food in closed containers to prevent contamination
  • Protect single-service utensils from contamination; Store utensils in manner preventing contamination
  • Food contact surfaces cleaned and sanitized after each use and following any operations when contamination may have occurred
  • Provide tightly sealed entrances and / or screened entrances to prevent the entry of insects, birds, rodents, and other pests
  • Ensure walls are kept clean and in good repair

St. James Catholic High School, 57 Victoria Rd N (1 Critical/2 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • CRITICAL: Ensure food is held above 60°C (140°F) after cooking / rapid re-heating
  • Mechanical ventilation operable and kept clean
  • Provide an easily readable, accurate indicating thermometer to check food storage temperatures

  • Store all toxic / poisonous substances in container bearing identifying label
  • Displayed food must be enclosed in a manner to prevent contamination; Ensure all food is protected from potential contamination and adulteration
  • Adjust or repair the refrigeration unit immediately. Do not store any hazardous foods in the unit until it is able to maintain hazardous foods at 4°C (40°F) or less; Ensure all hazardous foods are stored at 4°C (40°F) or less; Provide adequate refrigerated space for hazardous food storage; Thaw all hazardous foods maintaining a temperature of 4°C (40°F) or less
