MANGEZ! Dine Safe Guide for May 1-15, 2018

Twice-monthly, Guelph Politico posts the latest inspection results from the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health Unit inspection of local restaurants, hotels, cafes, grocery stores and other businesses that handle food. We call it “Mangez!”, and this column highlights the latest inspections done by WDGPH, and the results they’ve posted.

Here are the inspections done between May 1-15 according to the “Check Before You Choose” website.

Adonia Casual Greek Family Dining, 737 Woolwich St (5 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • Equipment is of sound and tight construction, in good repair and easily cleaned and sanitized
  • Bleach and water solution must be prepared no less than once a day, or as often as necessary to maintain the required concentration; Ensure wiping cloths are clean, handled properly, restricted to a single task and a sanitizing solution is used
  • Floors, walls, and ceilings clean and in good repair
  • Mechanical ventilation operable and kept clean
  • Daily housekeeping practices must be improved; Maintain the premises in a clean and sanitary condition; Remove all materials not associated with the daily operation of food premises

  • Ensure premise is kept free from insects, rodents and other pests
  • Ensure floors, walls, and ceilings are tight, smooth, and non-absorbent
  • General housekeeping is sufficient to maintain the premise in a clean and sanitary condition

Western Hotel, 72 Macdonell St (2 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • Provide an easily readable, accurate indicating thermometer to check food storage temperatures
  • Ensure all surfaces are clean and maintained in good repair

YMCA-YWCA of Guelph – Kensington, 84 Kensington St (1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • Ensure hand wash basin is only used for hand washing and is not obstructed in any way

*Critical infraction: A violation found during an inspection that could be a health hazard

Baker Street Station, 76 Baker St (1 Critical/2 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • CRITICAL: Adjust or repair the refrigeration unit immediately. Do not store any hazardous foods in the unit until it is able to maintain hazardous foods at 4°C (40°F) or less; Ensure all hazardous foods are stored at 4°C (40°F) or less
  • Ensure hand wash basin is only used for hand washing and is not obstructed in any way
  • Chlorine sanitizer concentration must be at least 100 parts per million at 24°C or greater for at least 45 seconds

Café Greek Garden, 497 York Rd (2 Critical/3 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • CRITICAL: Ensure food is held above 60°C (140°F) after cooking / rapid re-heating
  • CRITICAL: Ensure all food is protected from potential contamination and adulteration
  • Equipment is of sound and tight construction, in good repair and easily cleaned and sanitized
  • Clean and sanitize washroom(s) at least once per day and as often as necessary
  • Cleaning required around, under, and behind kitchen equipment, counters, and baseboards; Ensure floors are kept clean and in good repair

  • Clean and sanitize washroom(s) at least once per day and as often as necessary
  • Provide tightly sealed entrances and / or screened entrances to prevent the entry of insects, birds, rodents, and other pests
  • Ensure floors are kept clean and in good repair
  • Daily housekeeping practices must be improved; Maintain the premises in a clean and sanitary condition

Pierre’s Poutine, 71 Macdonell St (2 Critical/2 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • CRITICAL: Ensure all hazardous foods are stored at 4°C (40°F) or less
  • CRITICAL: Store raw foods separate and below cooked / ready-to-eat foods
  • Ensure manual dishwashing includes the three steps: wash, rinse, and sanitize
  • Cleaning required around, under, and behind kitchen equipment, counters, and baseboards; Ensure floors are kept clean and in good repair; Store food at least 15 cm (6 inches) off the floor

  • Daily housekeeping practices must be improved; Maintain the premises in a clean and sanitary condition
