MANGEZ! Dine Safe Guide for January 1-15, 2018

Twice-monthly, Guelph Politico posts the latest inspection results from the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health Unit inspection of local restaurants, hotels, cafes, grocery stores and other businesses that handle food. We call it “Mangez!”, and this column highlights the latest inspections done by WDGPH, and the results they’ve posted.

Here are the inspections done between January 1-15 according to the “Check Before You Choose” website.

  • Cleaning required around, under, and behind kitchen equipment, counters, and baseboards

Bombay Kitchen Fine Indian Cuisine, 105 MacDonell St (3 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • Ensure walls are kept clean and in good repair
  • Ensure clean wash / rinse water is provided
  • Ensure all surfaces are clean and maintained in good repair; Ensure all surfaces are easily cleanable and non-absorbent

Kids Come First, 1416 Gordon St (2 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • Operator / employee must wear head gear that confines the hair while working with food
  • Bleach and water solution must be prepared no less than once a day, or as often as necessary to maintain the required concentration; Prepare and maintain sanitizing solutions according to manufacturer’s instructions

M.E. Cafe, 247 Eramosa Rd (2 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • Store food at least 15 cm (6 inches) off the floor
  • Operator / employee must wear head gear that confines the hair while working with food

New York Fries, 435 Stone Rd W (3 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • Cleaning required around, under, and behind kitchen equipment, counters, and baseboards
  • Adequate protection against the entrance of insects, birds, rodents, and other pests
  • Ensure all surfaces are easily cleanable and non-absorbent

*Critical infraction: A violation found during an inspection that could be a health hazard

Dairy Queen, 9-995 Paisley Rd (1 Critical)

  • All cans, containers or wrappings of hazardous foods must bear labels as per Regulations

Feta & Olives Greek Kitchen, 435 Stone Rd W (1 Critical/3 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • CRITICAL: Ensure employees wash hands before food handling
  • Equipment is of sound and tight construction, in good repair and easily cleaned and sanitized
  • Chlorine sanitizer concentration must be at least 100 parts per million at 24°C or greater for at least 45 seconds; Ensure wash / rinse water is at 43°C or greater
  • Provide hot and cold running water for hand washing in food preparation area; Provide soap in a dispenser at hand washing basin in the food preparation area

Les Etoiles Brillantes, 30 Brighton St (2 Critical)

  • Store raw foods separate and below cooked / ready-to-eat foods
  • Ensure all food is protected from potential contamination and adulteration

Samura Japanese Restaurant, 281 Woodlawn Rd W (1 Critical/2 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • CRITICAL: Ensure all food is protected from potential contamination and adulteration
  • Cleaning required around, under, and behind kitchen equipment, counters, and baseboards
  • Daily housekeeping practices must be improved; Maintain the premises in a clean and sanitary condition

Victoria’s Pizza, 259 Grange Rd (1 Critical/1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • CRITICAL: Cover all food in storage
  • Provide hand washing basin in food preparation area

Wendy’s, 36 Wellington St E (1 Critical/1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • CRITICAL: Adjust or repair the refrigeration unit immediately. Do not store any hazardous foods in the unit until it is able to maintain hazardous foods at 4°C (40°F) or less; Ensure all hazardous foods are stored at 4°C (40°F) or less
  • Provide paper towels at hand washing basin in food preparation area

Wings Up, 328 Speedvale Ave E (1 Critical)

  • Ensure all hazardous foods are stored at 4°C (40°F) or less
