MANGEZ! Dine Safe Guide for July 1-15, 2017

Twice-monthly, Guelph Politico posts the latest inspection results from the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health Unit inspection of local restaurants, hotels, cafes, grocery stores and other businesses that handle food. We call it “Mangez!”, and this column highlights the latest inspections done by WDGPH, and the results they’ve posted.

Here are the inspections done between July 1 and 15 according to the “Check Before You Choose” website.

  • Chlorine sanitizer concentration must be at least 100 parts per million at 24°C or greater for at least 45 seconds
  • Ensure all surfaces are clean and maintained in good repair

Fat Duck Gastro Pub, 210 Kortright Road W (1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • Daily housekeeping practices must be improved

Mandarin Restaurant, 565 Woodlawn Road W (2 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • Ensure floors are kept clean and in good repair
  • Provide tightly sealed entrances and / or screened entrances to prevent the entry of insects, birds, rodents, and other pests

Meltwich Food, 96 Gordon St (2 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • Chlorine sanitizer concentration must be at least 100 parts per million at 24°C or greater for at least 45 seconds; Provide sufficient detergent or chemicals for washing or sanitizing
  • Ensure ice cream scoops are kept in a dipper-well with running water or maintained in a manner preventing bacterial growth

  • Ensure hand wash basin is only used for hand washing and is not obstructed in any way

Penny Whistle, 2 Quebec St (3 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • Ensure all surfaces are clean and maintained in good repair
  • Chlorine sanitizer concentration must be at least 100 parts per million at 24°C or greater for at least 45 seconds
  • Ensure floors are kept clean and in good repair

Subway, 17-995 Paisley Rd (1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • Quaternary ammonium compound must be at least 200 parts per million at 24°C or greater for at least 45 seconds

  • Ensure all surfaces are clean and maintained in good repair

*Critical infraction: A violation found during an inspection that could be a health hazard

A & W Restaurant, 20 Wellington St E (2 Critical/1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • CRITICAL: Cover all food in storage; Ensure all food is protected from potential contamination and adulteration
  • CRITICAL: Store raw foods separate and below cooked / ready-to-eat foods
    Ensure hand wash basin is only used for hand washing and is not obstructed in any way

Einstein’s Café, 2 Grant St (1 Critical)

  • Store all toxic / poisonous substances in container bearing identifying label

Elliott Community Cafe, 168 Metcalfe St. (1 Critical)

  • Ensure all food is protected from potential contamination and adulteration

Harvey’s, 12 Gordon St (1 Critical)

  • Ensure food is held above 60°C (140°F) after cooking / rapid re-heating

Noel’s Children’s Centre, 468 Woodlawn Rd E (1 Critical)

  • Handle raw foods separate from ready-to-eat foods, on separate preparation surfaces, and with separate utensils to prevent contamination

Thanh Phat Asian Grocery, 252 Silvercreek Pky N (1 Critical/6 Non-Critical Infractions)

  • CRITICAL: Ensure all hazardous foods are stored at 4°C (40°F) or less
  • Hand washing basin provided in all preparation / service areas, supplied with liquid soap and paper towels, and used for hand washing only
  • Ensure all surfaces are clean and maintained in good repair
  • Equip facility with paper towels in a dispenser / hot air dryer / continuous cloth roller
  • Contact licensed pest control operator for insect / rodent / pest treatment and control; Ensure premise is kept free from insects, rodents and other pests; Provide tightly sealed entrances and / or screened entrances to prevent the entry of insects, birds, rodents, and other pests
  • Floors, walls, and ceilings clean and in good repair
  • Remove all materials not associated with the daily operation of food premises; Daily housekeeping practices must be improved
