MANGEZ! Dine Safe Guide for April 16-30, 2017

Twice-monthly, Guelph Politico posts the latest inspection results from the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health Unit inspection of local restaurants, hotels, cafes, grocery stores and other businesses that handle food. We call it “Mangez!”, and this column highlights the latest inspections done by WDGPH, and the results they’ve posted.

  • Provide an easily readable, accurate indicating thermometer to check food storage temperatures
  • Ensure all surfaces are easily cleanable and non-absorbent
  • Quaternary ammonium compound must be at least 200 parts per million at 24°C or greater for at least 45 seconds; Ensure a sanitizing test kit is provided and used to verify the concentration of the sanitizing agent
  • Wash, rinse and sanitize equipment / utensils after each use or as often as necessary
  • Cleaning required around, under, and behind kitchen equipment, counters, and baseboards

  • Provide paper towels at hand washing basin in food preparation area; Provide soap in a dispenser at hand washing basin in the food preparation area
  • Chlorine sanitizer concentration must be at least 100 parts per million at 24°C or greater for at least 45 seconds; Ensure manual dishwashing includes the three steps: wash, rinse, and sanitize

  • Ensure all surfaces are clean and maintained in good repair
  • Cleaning required around, under, and behind kitchen equipment, counters, and baseboards; Ensure floors are kept clean and in good repair
  • Remove all materials not associated with the daily operation of food premises; Daily housekeeping practices must be improved

Zen Gardens, 104 Surrey St E (1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • Provide soap in a dispenser at hand washing basin in the food preparation area

  • Critical: Cover all food in storage
  • Maintain hardwood cutting boards, blocks, tables or bowls in a clean and sanitary manner
  • Ensure all surfaces are easily cleanable and non-absorbent; Ensure all surfaces are clean and maintained in good repair
  • Ensure floors, walls, and ceilings are tight, smooth, and non-absorbent; Ensure walls are kept clean and in good repair
  • Maintain the premises in a clean and sanitary condition; Daily housekeeping practices must be improved; Remove all materials not associated with the daily operation of food premises

  • Displayed food must be enclosed in a manner to prevent contamination

  • Cover all food in storage

The Great Canadian Bagel, 370 Stone Rd W (1 Critical)

  • Use all toxic / poisonous substances in a manner to prevent contamination of food/food contact surfaces

Tangy & Tasty Restaurant Inc., 75 Macdonell St (2 Critical)

  • Ensure food is held above 60°C (140°F) after cooking / rapid re-heating
  • Store raw foods separate and below cooked / ready-to-eat foods

Tom Yum Thai-Vietnamese Restaurant, 13-304 Stone Rd W, (2 Critical, 3 Non-Critical)

  • Critical: Adjust or repair the refrigeration unit immediately. Do not store any hazardous foods in the unit until it is able to maintain hazardous foods at 4°C (40°F) or less
  • Critical: Cover all food in storage
