MANGEZ! Dine Safe Guide for April 1-15, 2017

Twice-monthly, Guelph Politico posts the latest inspection results from the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health Unit inspection of local restaurants, hotels, cafes, grocery stores and other businesses that handle food. We call it “Mangez!”, and this column highlights the latest inspections done by WDGPH, and the results they’ve posted.

  • Cleaning required around, under, and behind kitchen equipment, counters, and baseboards

  • Provide sufficient detergent or chemicals for washing or sanitizing

  • Provide tightly sealed entrances and / or screened entrances to prevent the entry of insects, birds, rodents, and other pests

  • Ensure hand wash basin is only used for hand washing and is not obstructed in any way
  • Cleaning required around, under, and behind kitchen equipment, counters, and baseboards

  • Ensure a sanitizing test kit is provided and used to verify the concentration of the sanitizing agent

  • Provide paper towels at hand washing basin in food preparation area
    Ensure all surfaces are clean and maintained in good repair
  • Cleaning required around, under, and behind kitchen equipment, counters, and baseboards

La Cucina, 2nd Floor – 25 Macdonell St (1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • Ensure hot water sanitizer is at 82°C or greater for at least 10 seconds

Petro Canada, 80 Imperial Rd S (1 Non-Critical Infraction)

  • Provide paper towels at hand washing basin in food preparation area

*Critical infraction: A violation found during an inspection that could be a health hazard.

Artisanale Café & Restaurant, 214 Woolwich St (1 Critical, 1 Non-Critical)

  • Critical: Cover all food in storage; Ensure all food is protected from potential contamination and adulteration
  • Ensure ceilings are kept clean and in good repair; Ensure walls are kept clean and in good repair

Bombay Kitchen Fine Indian Cuisine, 105 MacDonell St (1 Critical, 2 Non-Critical)

  • Critical: Cover all food in storage
  • Ensure hand wash basin is only used for hand washing and is not obstructed in any way
  • Store foods in containers that can be readily cleaned and sanitized; Provide multi-service food containers that may be readily cleaned and sanitized

Buon Gusto Restaurant, 1 Douglas St (1 Critical)

  • Store raw foods separate and below cooked / ready-to-eat foods

Captain Jack’s Restaurant, 450 Woodlawn Rd W (1 Critical, 1 Non-Critical)

  • Critical: Store all toxic / poisonous substances in container bearing identifying label
  • Ensure a sanitizing test kit is provided and used to verify the concentration of the sanitizing agent; Bleach and water solution must be prepared no less than once a day, or as often as necessary to maintain the required concentration

The Cornerstone, 1 Wyndham St N (2 Critical, 5 Non-Critical)

  • Critical: Ensure hazardous food is reheated to the original cooking temperatures within 2 hours
  • Critical: Store all toxic / poisonous substances in container bearing identifying label
  • Provide an easily readable, accurate indicating thermometer to check food storage temperatures
  • Ensure equipment / utensil(s) / dishware are readily cleanable and in good repair
  • Ensure premise is kept free from insects, rodents and other pests; Contact licensed pest control operator for insect / rodent / pest treatment and control
