Coming up at this week’s Guelph Police Services Board meeting is something brief. In a manner, this month’s meeting is going to be all business, in that it’s all regular business with really noting controversial or unexpected. But sometimes it’s the small and quiet meetings that can lead to the greatest controversies, so will that be the case here? I guess we’ll find out. But for now, here’s the preview!
NOTE: This meeting takes place virtually at 2:30 pm but it will be broadcast on Guelph Police’s YouTube page.
Human Resources: Member Appointments – There’s only one new appointment for the board to approve this month, and it’s a new full-time member of the service who will be taking part in training at the Ontario Police College next month.
Board Correspondence Report – There were no correspondences included in the agenda this month.
Community Account Annual Report 2024 – You may know that the Guelph Police Service has a Community Account; funds in it are collected from police auctions, found money from property seizures and monthly interest. As of the beginning of 2025, the balance was nearly $75,000. Last year about $15,000 was deposited into that account and almost nearly as much was dispersed to various community causes.
Amended User Fee for Special Duty Requests – In an effort to better reflect the cost of covering special events, the Chief of Police is proposing a new fee. Instead of the $35 per day flat fee, the police will impose a 10 per cent fee of the total cost to cover the event. “The percentage-based fee more accurately recovers fees based on value and complexity and therefore the change is recommended,” according to the report.
Chief’s Monthly Update – As usual, Guelph Police Services Chief Gord Cobey will deliver a verbal report about the latest goings on at 15 Wyndham Street South.
