You know it’s a treat when you get two Heritage Guelph meetings in the same month! There’s only one subject for this one and it’s going to be the always popular and contentious Ontario Reformatory Lands. The work on the Heritage Conservation District plan continues and Heritage Guelph will get their chance to formally review the work to date and give staff further advice about the direction they’re going in!
NOTE #1: If you would like to delegate to one of the items at the meeting, or to access an alternative meeting format, get in touch with Craig Vallesi, Policy Planning Clerk, by email at craig.vallesi [at] guelph.ca or by calling 519-837-5616, extension 3913. Deadline is January 24 at noon.
NOTE #2: This meeting will take place in-person at City Hall and virtually on Cisco Webex. You can find the link on the agenda page for this meeting on the City’s website (see below).
Ontario Reformatory Heritage Conservation District Draft Plan and Guideline Workshop – The draft plan and guidelines for the OR Lands HCD was presented at the council planning meeting in November, and it would be safe to say that there were a lot of concerns. Now, as planning staff try to reach consensus on a plan for this very popular property in the east end, Heritage Guelph will offer their feedback and what changes they want to see before it goes to council for final approval. No report was included in this agenda item, just the draft plan itself.
Creation of a National Urban Park at the Ontario Reformatory – At that November meeting, city council endorsed the idea that if all things are equal, then the OR Lands should be used as a national urban park. Now, Heritage Guelph member Alexandre Krucker will bring a motion to Heritage Guelph asking them to join the cause and endorse the idea of a national urban park on the OR Lands in the interest of “the conservation of its cultural and natural heritage, to advance reconciliation, and encourage public access and education.”
