February’s meeting of the Guelph Police Services Board doesn’t have a lot on the agenda, but there is one very important issue that will be discussed and it’s a follow-up from a city council directive last fall. Council declared Intimate Partner Violence an epidemic, and members of the Service will tell us what they’re doing about it. On top of that, there’s some of the usual report items to check out, so let’s check them out!
NOTE: This meeting takes place virtually at 2:30 pm but it will be broadcast on Guelph Police’s YouTube page.
Intimate Partner Violence – Inspector Jeimy Karavelus and Staff Sergeant Melanie Clark will lead a presentation on this topic. Back in November, council passed a multi-part resolution concerning Intimate Partner Violence, and among the motions was a request of the Guelph Police Service Board to produce a report that “outlines how the police service meets or intends to address the recommendations contained” in the recommendations from the Culleton, Kuzyk & Warmerdam (CKW) Inquest. No report materials were included in the agenda.
Board Correspondence Report – There’s only outgoing mail this month, congratulatory letters to the Services’ four new hires.
Community Account Annual Report – In 2023, there was just over $27,000 put into the Community Account courtesy of Community Account from Police Auctions, Found
Cash from Property, and monthly interest accrued on deposited funds. Just over $12,000 was spent handed out in the last year, which leaves nearly $75,000 in the account by the end of the year.
Chief’s Monthly Report – As usual, Guelph Police Services Chief Gord Cobey will deliver a verbal report about the latest goings on at 15 Wyndham Street South.
